1962 saw the introduction of the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III which was to be the final variant of the factory bodied standard steel saloon. At first glance it would appear that the all new Silver Cloud III was merely a Silver Cloud II with different headlamps. The introduction of the twin headlamps was clearly the most obvious change, but the differences did not end there. Further changes included the introduction of smaller bumper over riders and the re positioning of the front indicators and side lamps into one single unit on the front wing, resulting in an arguably more attractive appearance. Mechanically speaking the Silver Cloud III was issued with larger 9:1 compression ratio carburettors, improved power steering to aid smoother movement at parking speed and a Lucas vacuum-advance distributor to aid fuel consumption, making it almost identical in mechanical specification to the Bentley S3 Continental that was being produced at the same time. During the 1950s and early 1960s James Young were responsible for building coachwork for a limited number of S Type Continentals and Silver Clouds, fewer than their main competitors H.J.Mulliner and Park Ward, but they produced cars of great elegance and quality. Chassis No SFU365 is one of their final coachbuilt offerings on the Silver Cloud III chassis, built to Design No SCV100. It is one of just eighteen examples built in this style in right hand drive. It was originally completed in April of 1964, finished in silver with a black leather interior and supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd to Mr C Amer of Middlesbrough. It was retained by the Amer family until 1989 and was acquired by the most recent owner in 2013. At this point the car was reviewed and improved by a noted Rolls-Royce specialist to the owners satisfaction. The car comes complete with a handbook, James Young supplemental handbook, tools and a good history file documenting the most recent works and more historic works. Chassis No SFU365 presents very well throughout and comes prepared and ready for the next owners immediate enjoyment as per our normal policy.
